The Mission of Alcoholism Today is to provide the most unbiased, up-to-date scientific information about Alcoholism, Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD).  This site uses the most recent AI information on AUD*.  Alcoholism is one of the most serious health problems in the U.S. today. Although there have been declining drinking rates since 2022, excessive alcohol use results in 178,000 American deaths each year.  Almost ten percent (9.7%) of our adult population has AUD, resulting in 260,000 emergency room visits annually.
